Dick was born December 30, 1944 in New Lexington, Ohio the son of the late Richard Helwig, Sr., and Teresa Elizabeth (Shreves) Shriner.
He retired from the janitorial staff for the Perry County Government offices in 2011 after 21 years of services. His most enjoyable times were spent fishing, playing cards and pool, pitching horseshoes, bowling at Fiore's bowling alley and golfing.
Dick is survived by his sister and brother in law, Linda (Shriner) and John Spangler of Laurelville, his son, Richard Eugene Williams of Columbus, his daughters, Vickie Shearers of Columbus and Leslie Marie (Daniel) Shelley of Moody TX. Grandchildren, A.J., Monica, and Curtis; nieces and a nephew, Belinda, Christina, and Craig Hart all of Laurelville; step father, Lowell Shriner, brother William Helwig, mother of his children, Elizabeth (Libby) Starr of Lancaster, and a very special cousin, Tim (Sherrie) Helwig of New Lexington, as well as many other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Helen; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Helwig, grandmother, whom he loved dearly, Gertrude (Grandma Gertie) Shreves, Aunt Mary Lou Jones and uncles, Johnny Jones, Max Shreves and Jack Sanborn.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. on TUESDAY, APRIL 29, 2014 and WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2014 at 11:00 until time of service at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery.
