Melvin (Mel) L. Hutmire 86 of New Lexington, Ohio died Oct 1, 2023 at 4:53 pm at Genesis Hospice (Morrison House) in Zanesville, Ohio. Born July 5, 1937, he was the son of the late Gladys and Melvin L. Hutmire.
Mel graduated from Moxahala High School. He was a Navy and Ohio National Guard Veteran. Methodist by faith. A former New Lexington Councilman and Cemetery Board Member. He retired as a Veteran officer for the Perry County Veteran Service Commission, served over 33 years as Perry County Bureau Manger and news reporter for the Time Recorder.
Mel was an avid Bowler, loved working puzzles, in his younger years, he was a scuba diver, refinished furniture and was a projectionist at the formal Sky Line out door Theater.
Mel was a member of New Lexington Masonic Lodge 250 F&AM, Logan York Rite Chapter 149, Royal Arch Masons, was a life member of New Lexington Elks Lodge 509 and American Legion Post 188.
Mel is survived by his son Scott (Kimberly) Hutmire of Westerville, Ohio Lee (John) Hutmire of Crooksville, Ohio, Sister Sandy (Joe) Phillips of Somerset, Ohio. Grandchildren Eric Hutmire of Columbus, Ohio, Marissa Hutmire of Lewis Center, Ohio, and their mother Linda Hutmire of Lewis Center, Ohio.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in- law Judy and Arthur June. Sister and brother-in-law Doris and Arthur (Gene) Hill.
Family and friends may call from 11a.m. to 2 p.m., with funeral services starting at 2 p.m. Thursday October 5,2023 at the Chute-Wiley Funeral Home 118 S. Jackson St. New Lexington, Ohio 43764 with Rev. Richard Newlon officiating. Burial will follow at Oakfield Cemetery on State Route 13, where Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 188.
