Marie Dunn Obituary

Marie E. Dunn, 97, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Lanfair Center in Lancaster. She was born in Junction City on March 6, 1916 to Sylvester A. and Mary Catherine (Grisby) Clark. At age 16, following the death of her mother, Marie left Junction City High School to care for and raise her five younger siblings. After several years she passed the task on to her younger sister and moved to New Lexington where she met the love of her life, Arthur Dunn. They were married on August 17, 1938. Marie loved caring for her home, tending her vegetable and flower gardens, baking and wine making. She was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church and, along with her husband, maintained a lifetime devotion to His Blessed Mother.

She is survived by daughters, Virginia Shonk of Omaha, NE, Maureen (John) King of Newark, Margaret (Joseph) Rice and Bernadette (Tom) King of Lancaster, Patricia (Roland) Cardin of Tolland CT, and Martha (Bill) Countryman of Poland, OH; 23 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Marjorie Clark and Josephine Clark, both of Lancaster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Dunn; parents, Sylvester and Mary Clark; sister, Louise Porterfield; five brothers, Thomas, Michael, Daniel, Vince and Paul Clark; son-in-law, David Shonk; and infant grandchildren, Michael Rice and Erin King.

Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Chute-Wiley Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, located at the corner of Main and Water Streets in New Lexington, with Father James Csaszar as Celebrant. Burial will follow at New Lexington Cemetery.

Marie's family would like to thank the staff at Lanfair Center in Lancaster for their loving care during the last ten years of her life. Marie's only wish was to "go home," and together we celebrate her life and her joyous return home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church, 309 N. Main St, New Lexington, Ohio 43764 or Lanfair Center/Speret Hall, Activities Department, 1590 Chartwell Drive, Lancaster, Ohio, 43130.
