Adelaide Gable, age 95 of New Lexington, Ohio, passed away at her son’s home in New Lexington on January 26, 2026.
Born November 30, 1930, in New Lexington, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Francis and Geraldine Gordon Nash. She graduated from St. Aloysius High School in 1949.
Adelaide attended Bustin Beauty School in Columbus, than returned to New Lexington and opened her own beauty salon, profession she continued throughout her life, loving to give many great-grandchildren their first trim at her kitchen table. Adelaide married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Gable in 1954 and raised 5 boys in what was her childhood homestead. She was a member of Daughters of Isabelle and volunteered for various church and school activities. A lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, she loved making pies, noodles and chicken picking for church events. What Adelaide loved the most was time spent with her family hosting many holidays and cookouts on the family farm.
Preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Robert Gable, son Patrick Gable, grandsons Michael and Steven Gable, brothers Tom (Helen) Nash and Dick Nash and sister Connie (George) Hughes.
Adelaide leaves behind sons Jim (Angie) Gable of Zanesville, Gene (Beth) Gable of New Lexington, John (Jenny) Gable of Wisconsin and Gerry (Theresa) Gable of New Lexington, Grandchildren Joe (Gwyn) Gable, Kyle (Keri) Gable, Trisha (Joel) Richards, Jamie (Liz) Gable, Floyd (April) Gable, Sarah (Tom) Hamilton, Edgar Gable and Alyson (Tyler) Hay. Her favorite title was great-grandma (Mamaw) to 21 great- grandchildren, including Thomas, Michelle, Bowen, Jacob, James, Adelaide, Cecelia, Vincent, Arlena, Carter, Luke, Kristin, Kaitlyn, Leah, and 1 baby girl due in February. As well as siblings Charlotte Reott, Eleanor Schmelzer, Gerilou Kiibarger, Bill (Cindy) Nash, and sisters- in-law Judy Nash and Vera Gable.
The family would like to give special thanks to many staff who helped with Adelaide’s care over the last several months. Genesis Hospital, Alter Care, Somerset Genesis Home Care, Genesis Palliative Care and Genesis Hospice Care.
Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by Father Emmanuel Adu Addai will take place at St. Rose Catholic Church in New Lexington at 11 am on Tuesday February 3, 2026, with burial taking place at New Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday February 2, 2026 from 4 pm – 7 pm at the Chute-Wiley Funeral Home 118 S Jackson St. New Lexington, Ohio and Rosary to follow. In lieu of flowers, the Gable family suggests donations made in Adelaide’s memory to St. Rose Church, 309 N. Main Street, New Lexington, Ohio 43764
