Passed away Friday, May 13, 2011. He was born in Jobs, son of the late John E. Sr., and Dora Griffen Potter.
John served in the CCC Camp and the U.S. Navy during WWII and took place in the D-Day Invasion. He worked in several steel mills after the war and later worked for Kaiser Aluminun in Heath for 32 years until his retirement in 1983. He loved working crosswords, and was an avid Reds, Bengels and Ohio State fan, he enjoyed following his grandchildren in their various activites.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years Hazel,
Children, Pamela, David (Marsha), and Gary Potter all of New Lexington.
Grandchildren, Heidi Garner-Walker, Steven (Jennifer Tharp) Garner, Elizabeth (Shane Bowman)Potter, Amber (Martin) Jones, Ashlee (Justin) VanSickle, and Ally Jo Potter.
11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a very dear, friend Arlene Hammer.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Lanning Fields, Doris Wetzel, Carrie Wetzel, Bertha Potter and Lelia Logue. Brothers, Ralph and Raymond Potter and a half brother, Walter Griffen.
Calling hours will be held from 4-8 pm Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the funeral with burial to follow in Community Gardens Cemetery, New Lexington with full military graveside rites conducted by Junction City American Legion Post 376.
