Cheryl Ann King

December 6, 1960 – October 10, 2022

Cheryl Ann King, age 61, passed away on October 10, 2022 at Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio following a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. Cheryl was born on December 6, 1960 at Mt. St. Mary Hospital in Nelsonville, Ohio to Billy Shepard and Alberta Whaley Hartshorn.  She was a graduate of New Lexington High School, Tri-County JVS and Hocking College.

Life was rarely kind to Cheryl, but she loved living.  She was a long time resident of New Lexington, Ohio.  She was proud of her employment with Perry County Children Services and was saddened when a battle with leukemia forced her to retire much earlier than she had planned.  Cheryl fought leukemia and won. She lived nearly 20 years cancer-free.  During that time, she moved to Coshocton, Ohio.  She made new friendships and became a grandmother.  She loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren. 

Cheryl was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and Sons & Daughters of the Army and Navy Union. 

Cheryl was preceded in death by her grandparents, Johnny & Goldie Whaley and Ellsworth & Juanita Shepard, her beloved daughter, Amanda Griggs, her grandson, Tyler Griggs and her brother, Ronald Shepard.  In addition to her parents, Cheryl is survived by her daughter, April King, grandchildren, Mason Jacob, & Jonah Gano and Drea Griggs & Nola Cotton, siblings Jeff (Carrie) Shepard, Kathy (Bill) Ahsaruk, Donald Shepard & Melissa Congrove, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and her caretaker, Casey Dillon, whom she adored. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Coshocton County Handicapped Society, 1005 Main St., Coshocton, Ohio 43812.  Calling hours will be observed on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 2pm-4pm at Chute-Wiley Funeral Home, 118 S. Jackson St., New Lexington, Ohio 43764.

A private graveside service will be held at Dew Cemetery near Corning, Ohio at a later date.
