Brice Augustine Metzger, 81
Passed away January 15, 2016. He was born December 3, 1934 in Columbus, the youngest son of the late J. Albert and Alice Boley Metzger. He grew up in Bexley, where he attended Holy Rosary school.
Following graduation from the Ohio State University, he worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the northern Midwest and Canada before attending seminary at St. Procopious Abbey outside Chicago. He was ordained in 1966 and served as a Priest in the Diocese of Columbus until 1980, including time as pastor of Sacred Hearts Parish in Cardington. After leaving the priesthood, he repaired clocks in Bladensburg and Wooster before his retirement. He also wrote and published several volumes of poetry in the later years of his life.
Brice is preceded in death by his wife Beverly (Hess), son Jacob, and brother, Fr. John L. Metzger. He is survived by his sister, Sr. Alice, OSF and sons Mark (Anne), Luke (Amy) and Karl Metzger; including five grandchildren, (Ally, Korey, Clare, Aidan and William); and devoted caregiver, Sarah Dodge.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 21 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1170 St. Rt 668 S., Junction City with a vigil service at 6:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 22 at the church. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. CHUTE-WILEY FUNERAL HOME, 118 S Jackson St., New Lexington is in charge of arrangements. Following committal, refreshments will be served in the parish hall.
