Alva Loring Ballis, 90 of Corning passed away Monday June 1, 2015 at Genesis Healthcare in New Lexington. He was born, May 24, 1925 to the late Raymond and Emma (Goudy) Ballis.

Alva was very proud to be a US Army Veteran, having served in World War II. He was a tank operator and his unit was one of the first to engage in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of American Legion Post 327 and Corning Masonic Lodge 584.

He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Richard) Flowers. Grandchildren Ric Flowers (Kia Sheumaker) of New Lexington and Jen (Rich) Maskiell of Athens. Great-grandchildren Benjamin and Nicholas Maskiell and sister Juanita Arter of Zanesville.

Besides his parents he was proceeded in death by his wife Luella (Dunlap) Ballis 6/25/1991. Brothers, Jim, Raymond, Jack and Emmett; sisters, Alouise Kyle and Barbara Clark. Special companion, Peggy Nixon and beloved collie Joe.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Chute-Wiley Funeral Home, 118 S. Jackson St., New Lexington, Ohio. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Chute-Wiley Funeral Home with Rev. William Bales presiding. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Millertown. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Corning American Legion Post 327.
