Albert was the oldest boy of the Smith family. He, his 3 sisters and 13 brothers lived on the family farm in Somerset, OH. He helped his father work the land with a team of horses and later
Farmall tractors. Family folklore said Al was driving a team of horses when he was 6 years old. Those were among his fondest memories, time spent on the farm with his brothers and sisters.
After he married Rose Dreese and started a family, he moved to New Lexington, where he found his career as a machinist for Star Engineering. He loved his work and shared many
stories about training the younger workers. He retired from Star after 40 years of service. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, and large bowls of ice cream. He had the ability to bring Rose’s ideas to light; remodeling, repairing, and making improvements to the family home. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and participating in Tractor pulls.
He was a member of the St. Aloysius Athletic Association, Knights of Columbus, and St. Rose Church.
Family and friends may call Friday, October 22, 2021 at the CHUTE-WILEY FUNERAL HOME, 118 S JACKSON ST., NEW LEXINGTON from 4-8 pm.
